Signs of the Times: Ill Symbology in Advertisements

Here is more suspect symbology from the advertising industry. (We are all a part of that industry, aren't we? Whether from the building or consuming side..) Sometimes it feels like a losing battle to point out these things. But we will stay encouraged.

Below is a 1999 Nike ad from Sports Illustrated.

This advert attempts to draw a line between the steady footing of mountain goats and your performance while running around the neighborhood.. after lacing up these athletic shoes, that is. Looks pretty simple at first glance..

Except that this symbology follows a well-established path. Commentary lifted from

The man in the whisky displays the popular "Baphomet" horned salute with one hand. This symbol is so widespread that most of us think nothing of it. But it is a signal of rebellion. Further reading:
